I am in the market for a new machine. I have had a Singer Machine that I bought when I first got married 30 years ago. It finally conked out and me and I decided it was time to step up (or should I say "sew up") in the world. After looking at several machines I am now confused on what I want. I looked at a 2044 and really liked what I saw as far as stiches available etc. It was priced at almost $1800 though, and wondered if that was a little high? Anyone know?? My sister-in-law recommended a Janome, does anyone know which one might do comparable things as the 2044. I appreciate any help you can give me! |

Hi, I have a Pfaff 7570, and plan to never part with it. It sews like a dream. then i bought a Brother Ult 2002, basically for the bigger hoop size. Janome is a really great machine also. I have a friend that has the Ellegeo, and really loves that machine, along with all of the others she has. One thing I would like to suggest is to sit down and play with all of the machines you are considering. Make the best choice for you. By the way, $1800 is really not a bad price. My Pfaff was 3000.00 in Nov 97, and gave 3800 for the Ult in Nov 2001.. TexasGirl..... Happy Shopping and as always, Everybody keep on Sewing................ |

I just bought the Janome Memory Craft 6500. The Memory Craft 4800 is also a great machine. Very smooth with lots of features. According to consumers report Janome is the least likely of all machines to visit the repair shop. I decided on the 6500 because I wanted the larger bed. It does not have the free arm as does the 4800 but I have two other machines that have that feature should I need it. Mainly I do window treatments so on my work horse machine I never need a free arm. Of the Pfaff models the 2044 would be the better choice. Some problems have been discussed on this board regarding the 2046. My local dealer quoted me 1999.00 on the 2046 a week or two ago before I bought the Janome. HTH![]() |

I don't know anything about Janome as they are not around in Iceland. But I have a Pfaff 2046, which I got after having 2024 for three months. I really like it. I posted a question on another thread about tread jam in the spool mechanism. I took it to the dealer's repairshop, the repairman taught me how to solve it in an instant so I can fix it on my own. It actually has very little to do with the type of machine exept that it is electronic. The one I had before was all manual. Af for the price, my machine costs the equalivent of $1560 right now because the dollar is at its lowest. The dollar was sky high in Iceland a year ago or so and then the machine would have cost $1150. Right now your 2046 would cost 115% in mine is 100%. I think I would buy the 2046 again! |

These are great machines, I have the 2054 and love it! Just make sure it is updated to the newest version if you look at that one. You are more than welcome to email me privately. I have both the Janome 6500 and the 2054. |

Go for any brand except Pfaff, I bought a 2020 on July 2002, The button hole maker never worked and just the week after the warranty expired, it broke, since that, 7 months ago, it has been back and for to the shop. If you want a reliable sewing machine, DO NOT BUY PFAFF. Within a year you will have a piece of junk. Get it only if you don't care to place your money in the garbage. My sewing machine has been in Ohio Pfaff shop, and it came back in worst shape. Get a consumer report before investing or thashing your money on sewing machines. It is my suggestion. |

I totally disagree with deedeew! I had a lowline Pfaff for seven years that I quilted so many quilts on... never had it professionally cleaned or tuned until just before I traded it - it was a workhorse and never gave me one problem. I just purchased a 2044 last month for $1500 and already I can tell you that it sews like a dream! I also have a Bernina 180E that I use for embroidery and some quilting. Love my Bernina, but would never be without a Pfaff. I get PERFECT 1/4" seams, and nothing quilts like a Pfaff. For precision sewing, Pfaff is excellent. Pfaff's are meaty, quality machines. That's not to say that some models (like the 2054) haven't been without their problems. Other than the 2054, I haven't seen a Pfaff model with consistent problems. There are horror stories with every manufacturer and you will always hear about a lemon here or there. If I couldn't have gotten a hold of a 2044, I would have purchased the 2034. The 2046 has a few more quilt stitches than the 2044, but I couldn't justify the price difference. Kim |

And I totally AGREE with Kim - bought my Pfaff 2030 two years ago September and it certainly ISN'T top of the line - but has enough sewing features for me. I find it to be a VERY good machine and I've been around quite a while - sewing all the while. ![]() ---------------------------------------- Pat - - Rules inhibit my creativity Einstein said the definition of INSANITY - - doing the same thing over and over - - and expecting DIFFERENT results. |

For over 30 years now I have been sewing on an old Universal workhorse that's all metal. Goes out of time every once in a great while but that's only because I sewed too fast over something I shouldn't be sewing on anyway. I would never part with it but last year I decided I needed to upgrade. I wanted some decorative stitches and a few other features. So I get a Janome Memory Craft 3500 and there aren't enough words to describe how much I dislike that machine. Its a toy, all plastic, jumps around the table if I sew fast, thread spool goes flying, skips stitches, and I can't sew a straight line on that thing for love or money, what a mess! I packed it up and don't plan on even looking at it again unless I sell it. A few months ago I got a Pfaff 1471 on eBay and since I set it up I have yet to put the lid on it. I just can't get enough of this great 2nd workhorse! |
