What brands of thread? Archived Article.

I was thinking about ordering some thread but before I do want to ask if others have used the Marathon thread and if they like it. Or has anyone used Madeira Thread? Thanksalien 1

Re: What brands of thread? Archived Article.

I haven't used Marathon so can't comment on it. My two favorite brands are Superior and Madiera for rayon thread. For regular thread I like Superior, Madiera, Mettler, and Gutterman.

Re: What brands of thread? Archived Article.

Most of my thread is Madiera and it works great. I've also got quite a bit of Sulky. It also works well. I can't really tell the difference. The only time I've had thread problems (knock on wood) is with some inexpensive metallic silver thread but after I changed my needle to a new metallic needle even that went well.

Maybe I've just been lucky but it seems thread problems are more a matter of needles and tension problems more than what brand the thread is. I'm reserving final judgement, I haven't tried all the brands of thread.

smile My first choice is Madeira Rayon--I did get a good buy on Robison-Anton rayon and like that also..For polyester I tried Spectrum and that works well for certain designs.. I am talking of embroidery threads,I use coats and clark for regular sewing and would like to know of some that might be better...Always willing to learn !!!!Jeanette

I started out with Madiera Rayon but was doing quite a bit of embroidery that was washed alot so changed to Isacord poly. I still use the Madiera once in a while...the color ranges are quite different in the different brands.

The only thread I've used is Marathon poly because the factory is within driving distance. Seems to work great for me. They also have metallics that seem to work well.

Re: What brands of thread? Archived Article.

I have use quite a few brands of rayon embroidery threads: Alcazar, Maderia, Sulky, Coats & Clark, Robison Anton - they all work equally well. Got a bunch of ARC polyester, embroidery thread, 1000M cones, and I am very pleased with that - it has the shine of rayon and the washability of poly. ARC has lots of different shades of colors (288). Best price is craftersEbazzar. I haven't really found an embroidery thread yet that my Pfaff or Ellageo doesn't do well with. As with any thread, you might hit a spot where it shreds, just pull off a few yards and go right back with that spool with no problem.

For regular sewing I mostly use Mettler metrosene plus (because that's the one my dealer carries), or Coats from the fabric stores.

Diana, Marathon thread is wonderful and they are so helpful on the phone. The thread samples are a big help in selecting the thread that you need or want. They are so reasonable also. The needles are wonderful.

Re: What brands of thread? Archived Article.

love struck And "love struck" I truly am! As you can see from other posts I'm a Superior Thread person. I certainly don't intend to throw out the various others that I have - but when buying in the future - I will ALWAYS buy Superior - unless they just don't have what I need - and I find that likelihood slim. And talk about helpful - Bob & Heather just cannot be more helpful. If you ever get a chance to see them at a show - ask about their son's experience with dissolving threat - it's a hoot! ! ! !laughing
